What Fossils can you find at Abbey Wood

(Dunrobin Castle with the foreshore below)

Shark teeth are by far the most common finds, and often 20 or more are found in every bucket sieved. Mammal and bird remains can also be found. It is recommended that all sieving on site is done with sieves with a mesh size no coarser than 0.5mm so that all important mammalian remains are retained.

In 1999, the largest number of mammalian finds in one single excavation surprised many who felt the bed was beginning to thin out. It was in fact in this ‘thinning’ bed that 9 mammal teeth were found, Sparnacomys, Paramys pourcyensis and possibly Pseudoparamys. An upper left P4 and M2 of Wyonycteris was also found.
